Event Details

On August 2, 2014, Metropolitan Youth Orchestras of Central Alabama and Scrollworks presented Ms. Files in a free Horton & Ballet technique masterclass at the historic Carver Theatre in Birmingham, Alabama. The class was well-attended and well-received by the students. Many of the students requested that she return to Birmingham and offer additional masterclasses. From her own experiences, Ms. Files knew there was a strong need for Horton training in the area. Ms. Files is classically trained in Ballet and acknowledges that Ballet training is the foundation for all dance training. However, since studying in New York City she realizes to be competitive, students need exposure to other dance techniques such as Horton, Limon, and Graham. Out of her desire to offer additional dance masterclasses and thoroughly prepare students for careers in the arts, Ms. Files decided to create this project to not only include dance but to also include music instruction, a healthy artist initiative, and a "business of being an artist" segment.
